It could be
said that the Oscars are the biggest award show of the year.
Certainly, it gets the majority of viewing populations for the
night, and with that many fans rooting for their personal
favorite, it stands to logic that bets on the winners would
eventually come to play. Well, it has.
Whereas most individuals are content to make their predictions
to themselves, the Oscars have now revealed themselves to the
gambling community as a potential for profit. Odds Makers have
put up the Oscars for wagering this year. Although it’s not
the first year the event has been offered, it’s certainly
guaranteed to be its best year yet, as every season has shown
significant growth in popularity.
Three main categories are offered: Best Picture, Best Actor,
and Best Actress. This year specifically looks to Daniel Day
Lewis as the shoo-in for Best Actor for his role in There Will
Be Blood. His corresponding odds are at (-1450.) Johnny Depp
and George Clooney are the runners-up at +800. Tommy Lee Jones
and Viggo Mortensen are at the bottom, with +2200 and +1800
respectively.
The women’s category is not a close call either. Julie
Christie is favorite to win by a long-shot, with (-335).
Marion Cotillard is +275, young Ellen Page of Juno is at +475.
The remaining two, Cate Blanchett and Laura Linney are at an
even +1800.
The Best Picture category, however, could stand a surprise
win. No Country for Old Men is ahead, but not by much, at
(-325). There Will Be Blood follows with odds of +220, Juno is
at +450. Atonement is at a close +500, and lastly, Michael
Clayton at +2200.
The Oscars will be televised nationally, and held on Sunday,
February 24th, 8pm EST.
